Al Bayan: A Commentary on Surah Ar-Rad by Javed Ahmad Ghamidi
Al Bayan is a series of lectures on Tafseer-ul-Quran (exegesis of the Quran) by Javed Ahmad Ghamidi, a renowned scholar of Islam and the founder of Al-Mawrid Institute of Islamic Sciences. The lectures cover the entire Quran in a thematic and contextual manner, highlighting the coherence and consistency of the divine message.
In this article, we will focus on the 12th lecture of Al Bayan, which deals with Surah Ar-Rad (The Thunder), verses 30 to 31. These verses address the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his followers, who faced rejection and opposition from the disbelievers of Mecca. The verses reassure them that Allah is aware of their situation and will support them with His signs and help. The verses also warn the disbelievers that they will face a severe punishment if they persist in their denial and arrogance.
The following is a summary of the main points discussed by Ghamidi in his lecture:
Verse 30: This verse states that Allah has sent the Prophet (peace be upon him) as a bearer of good news and a warner to all people, but most of them do not know. The verse also affirms that Allah is the only God, who has no partners or associates, and that He has power over all things.
Verse 31: This verse responds to the demand of the disbelievers for a miraculous sign from Allah to prove the truthfulness of the Prophet (peace be upon him). The verse says that even if Allah were to send down a book from the sky that they could touch with their hands, they would still not believe. The verse also implies that Allah has already given them enough signs in the Quran and in nature, but they are blind and deaf to them.
Ghamidi explains that these verses show the futility of arguing with the disbelievers who are stubborn and obstinate in their rejection of the truth. He says that such people are not sincere seekers of guidance, but rather enemies of Islam who want to undermine its message and mission. He advises the Muslims to focus on conveying the message of Islam with wisdom and patience, and to trust in Allah's promise of victory and reward.

In the next part of the lecture, Ghamidi discusses verses 32 to 34 of Surah Ar-Rad. These verses further elaborate on the fate of the disbelievers and the believers in the Hereafter. The verses also emphasize the uniqueness and majesty of Allah, who is the Creator and Sustainer of everything.
Verse 32: This verse compares the disbelievers to the previous nations who rejected the messengers of Allah and were destroyed by His wrath. The verse says that Allah is not unaware or helpless about what they do, but He gives them respite until a fixed term. The verse also warns that when their term expires, they will not be able to delay or advance it by a single hour.
Verse 33: This verse asks the disbelievers if they know of any god besides Allah who can create anything or benefit or harm anyone. The verse answers that there is none, and that Allah is exalted above what they associate with Him.
Verse 34: This verse states that Allah knows what is hidden and what is manifest, and that He has full authority over His servants. The verse also says that He sends guardians over them until death overtakes them, and then they are returned to Him for judgment.
Ghamidi explains that these verses show the foolishness and ingratitude of the disbelievers who deny Allah's oneness and sovereignty, and who ignore His signs and warnings. He says that such people are deluded by their worldly life and forget their accountability in the Hereafter. He urges the Muslims to be mindful of Allah's presence and power, and to worship Him alone with sincerity and devotion.
